Pride


Pride , depending upon context, either a high sense of the worth of one's self and one's own, or a pleasure taken in the contemplation of these things.And sometimes viewed as excessive or as a vice, sometimes as proper or as a virtue according to Aristotle.

Demon: Lucifer

Yet there is somewhere written in the bible & according to Mohammad, regarding pride as of something negative.

Psalm 10:4
In his pride the wicked does not seek Him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

Mohammad...

He in whose heart there is as much as an atom of arrogance will not enter paradise..
...God, Most High, is beautiful and likes beauty; arrogance is disdaining what is true and despising people.

For I don't really see Pride as of something vile and evil. Aristotle stated though that Pride is some what a positive virtue.

...Identified pride (megalopsuchia, variously translated as proper pride, greatness of soul and magnanimity) as the crown of the virtues, distinguishing it from vanity, temperance, and humility, thus:

Now the man is thought to be proud who thinks himself worthy of great things, being worthy of them; for he who does so beyond his deserts is a fool, but no virtuous man is foolish or silly. The proud man, then, is the man we have described. For he who is worthy of little and thinks himself worthy of little is temperate, but not proud; for pride implies greatness, as beauty implies a good sized body, and little people may be neat and well-proportioned but cannot be beautiful.

Pride, then, seems to be a sort of crown of the virtues; for it makes them greater, and it is not found without them. Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is impossible without nobility and goodness of character.

By doing more research into these, in the view of Psychology, there are 2 branches of hubris.

Hubris, is a sense of self exaggerated pride...

Alpha Pride or the pride within self is a behavior of that reflects less emotion expressions and concerns more on the gratification of the feelings within than outward. On the other hand, Beta Pride or pride in behavior, is somewhat contributes negatively to the hubris(emotions are expressed to the intent of a communicative act addressed to others rather than direct reflections underlying the mental state.).

In other words, pride can be something positive as it can enhance the feeling of well-being of person. We become more creative, have high self esteem and altruism etc.

But too much pride can leave a negative impact as well. People become too cocky and arrogant. Being hostile as well..
