Poverty...

I was able to watch these video clips courtesy of pinoychannel.tv

The name of the tv show is called "Imbestigador" (investigator), hosted by Mike Enriquez, one of the Philippines' respectable broadcaster.

For the first part of the show. It tackles about kids who go caroling in the middle of busy streets of Metropolis etc. As you can see in the clips. The money that some of the kids received, they buy food with it while others use the money to gamble with other kids. It is so sad to see that at a very young age, these kids are already exposed to such bad elements. For me, I believe that poverty is the culprit in this scenario. This little kids should be in school studying or better yet at home playing where they would be safe from harm.

The second clip is about a kid named "Jepoy". The story, Jepoy is being by his mother. Lesions, bruises, and scars covered the kids body. Among his siblings, he is the only one who is tied up and kept in a small confinement in their home while his mother go out gambling. I find it disturbing for a mother to treat her children like this. What harm can a 4 year old do? Even the older sister would tie up her little brother! Absurd! Now he is under the care in an adoption center, now I hope that the child would grow up better than his parents. At the tender young age of Jepoy, traumas can stick to him like glue. The blame? Stupidity of the mother, I beleive she knows already that they can't provide enough for her kids but why keep on making them? How come the older kids can play while Jepoy is left tied up like a pig on the kitchen floor covered with trash? Instead of having or doing a decent job, all she does is go out and play "tong its".

The third clip is about child labor, A mother asking for help to have her son to be freed from labor in Batangas. The mother of the boy is asking for help to have her son removed from the place (Boy was complaianing that they had insufficient food and bad pay.). The owner of the farm states that the kid can not be released because of the money they owed (Around 17000 or 70000 Php I beleive.). As much as the mother and the aunt pleaded to talk to the kid, the so called "Manager" said they can't rest for now because of the work that would be left undone. When they got a chance to talk to the kid, the kid asked if he can go home with them but still the "Manager" would not allow them. My blame Stupidity, the owner is old as a boar and I beleive as a businessman, he knows the laws stipulated. The owner is such an imbessile! I don't think a reason such as "I only give out the money" is good enough. Being a businessman means you have to overlook all of the operations, hiring and everything. I can't blame the kids if they wanted to work so that they can help their parents. Okay, so they are working far from their homes, haviong inadequate food and lodging that leads to sickness.

Will poverty be erased from the face of the earth? Will the powerful people help elivate the problems connected to poverty?

Poverty is like a cancer that envelopes a person as a whole. Yet, people should not blame poverty when they cna't eat any food on their table. There are people who are in poverty who are trying their darnest to elivate their stature in life, little by little. It is something that we as people can do about it. Are we to damn selfish to think about other people?

I know they can rather we can do the change, but what is the hindrance?
